Netflix fans have just a few days left to watch 'funniest comedy ever' (2025)

Popular American comedy-drama series Psych captivated audiences in the 2000s, securing its place on many TV enthusiasts' lists of favourite shows - but time is running out to catch up on the programme. With an impressive eight-season stint, Psych revolves around Shawn Spencer, played by James Roday, a gifted young crime consultant employed by the Santa Barbara Police Department.

Utilising his exceptional observational skills and remarkable memory, Shawn persuades his colleagues that he is psychic. Accompanied by his intelligent best friend and unwilling accomplice Burton Guster, portrayed by Emmy-nominated actor Dulé Hill, the duo becomes embroiled in an array of unusual predicaments while fighting crime together.

Each episode typically introduces a new, intricate case to unravel. The show garnered widespread acclaim during its eight-year run.

Writing on review site Rotten Tomatoes, one fan wrote: "Psych is probably the funniest mystery comedy there is (not that there's a large amount of competition). Lead Sean Spencer (James Roday) is such a delightfully nonchalant wisecracker. The writers have found the right spot character-wise for Detective Lassiter."

Another devoted viewer said: "I've loved each series of this. It's been consistently hilarious, superbly plotted and with a fantastic cast of lovable characters, all played beautifully by the superb cast. Brilliant."

But fans don't have much time left to watch the series, which is due to leave Netflix soon. The series shows police become suspicious of Shawn's 'abilities'. To keep himself from getting in trouble with the law, he persuades them he possesses psychic powers - with the warning that if they find out he's lying, he'll end up behind bars.

To add a bit of credence to his deception, Spencer sets up a psychic detective agency, acting as an external advisor to the police. His so-called 'powers' lead to numerous funny and unconventional situations where he has to convert genuine clues into what seem like supernatural revelations.

One fan hailed the show, saying: "One of the best shows to ever be on TV". Another wrote: "You won't find a funnier show that's always fresh and original despite so many seasons and movies. Gus and Shawn have so much chemistry, which makes it that much better; the whole cast does."

Launched in 2006, this acclaimed series spawned spin-offs, a film adaptation, and even a musical number. During its stellar run, the show bagged several Emmy Award nominations and concluded in 2014 with a memorable final episode.

The second season of the show has received particular praise, with many viewers calling it "the best comedy" on television. A glowing review stated: "Perhaps the best year of the show, season two majorly improves upon everything that made the show intriguing in the first season with better writing, smarter cases, and an even better chemistry with a fantastic main cast that provides some of the best and cleanest comedy on TV."

If you're keen to check out the series, you'd better hurry – Psych is set to depart from Netflix's library on April 30.
